College Level Scholarships

Dean's Rising Sophomore, Junior and Senior Scholarship and Dean's Roundtable Scholarship (Application On-Line)

Description:
The Dean's Rising Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding rising Sophomore, rising Junior, and rising Senior. The Dean's Roundtable Scholarship will be selected from the applicants of the CLAHS Dean's Rising Junior and Rising Senior Scholarships.

Criteria for selection: Must demonstrate strong academic achievement, leadership and service to others.

Education Abroad Scholarship (Application On-Line)

Description: Available to CLAHS undergraduate and graduate students who wish to study abroad. Application Deadline - February 20, 2008.

Criteria for selection: Must provide statement on how this education abroad experience will complement educational and professional goals. Financial need may be considered.

Jerry L. Hulick Scholarship for Leadership, Friendship and Service (Application On-Line)

Description: Established by Jerry L. Hulick for undergraduate students who exhibit extraordinary characteristics of leadership, friendship, and service. Academic achievement and financial need may also be considered.

Criteria for selection: Must demonstrate outstanding leadership, friendship, and service. Applications must be accompanied by a letter of support from the students’ department head or designee.

Alexander L. Meszaros Student Leadership Scholarship (Application On-Line)

Description: Established by Alexander L. Meszaros to provide students the opportunity to enhance leadership skills, meet professional colleagues, and have fun in the process by attending the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) Annual Meeting. Deadline for Application - March 14, 2008

Criteria: Available to undergraduate or graduate students who are members of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Pre-professional Graduate Student Section. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of their application and an essay of no more than 100 words detailing how they will use the knowledge gained at the Annual Meeting.

Moody, Pratt, Minor Scholarship (Application On-Line)

Description: Established by Kay Moody Winzenried (CT ‘72) to honor the friendships of three Virginia Tech roommates.

Criteria for selection: Must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need and professional accomplishment. Preference given to rising seniors.

James D. Moran Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Application On-Line)

Description: Established by Dr. James Moran in memory of his father, Mr. James D. Moran.

Criteria for selection: Must be a graduate student in CLAHS studying issues faced by individuals and families within various environments throughout the life span including such areas as family systems, human development, nutrition, work/family relationships, health and well-being, and family/consumer resource management or a graduate student able to intern at the headquarters of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFSC) for one academic semester to support any functional area within the association and to gain experience in association management related to family and consumer sciences.

Ora Goodwin Roop Scholarship (Application On-Line)

Description: Established to honor Ora Goodwin by Helen Roop Osborne, Paul C. Roop, Ralph G. Roop, and their families.

Criteria for selection: Must be an undergraduate or graduate student in CLAHS who demonstrates academic achievement and provides leadership to the College.

Graduate Student Endowed Scholarship (Application On-Line)

Description: Established by the faculty in the former College of Human Resources and Education to aid a graduate student in CLAHS.

Criteria for selection: Must be enrolled in CLAHS for at least 2007-08 and 2008-09. Awarded on basis of scholastic achievement, good character, financial need, and leadership potential.

Mildred Crawford Weidemann Scholarship (Application On-Line)

Description: Established by Mildred Crawford Weidemann (Class of 1955) for students in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Criteria for selection: Must be enrolled in CLAHS. Award based on one or more of the following: financial need, relevant family circumstances, academic achievement, community service and good character.

Robichaud Family Scholarship

Description: Established by Ms. Paula J. Robichaud, Class of 1977, and the Robichaud Family Trust, for undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences who are committed to their own education and to helping others reach their potential.

Criteria for selection: Must demonstrate academic achievement and service to others. Financial need will be considered.
