INTERNSHIPS HELP STUDENTS  GET JOBS AFTER GRADUATION!!

This internship database was designed to give you an idea of the types of internships our students do in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences so that you might be inspired to look into getting an internship yourself!    Most companies and organizations do not have formal internship programs but rather consider them on an individual basis when approached by the student.  The best way for CLAHS students to secure an internship is simply to ASK!  Think about the types of work you might want to explore and then do an internet or phone book search in the geographical area you want to work in. Choose the companies and organizations you want to approach, create a resume and have it reviewed by VT Career Services, then make the phone call! Ask for someone in Human Resources or Personnel.  Here is an example of what you might say: “Hello. My name is Diana Ridgwell and I am a student at Virginia Tech. I am really interested in doing an internship with your organization and would like to know who to speak to about that.”

This is how to get your “foot in the door” and find out who you should be talking to. Be prepared to tell them what your skills are and how you can contribute to their work. For small companies and organizations, you might try stopping by with a resume and asking if you can set up an appointment to talk about internship possibilities. You may get lucky and the right person be there to speak to you right away or at least you may get an interview by way of an appointment.

So, use this database to gain insight into the types of positions available and then go out and start talking to people at the organizations and companies you are interested in.

Each of the following categories contains internships completed by CLAHS students.
